ABSU Inaugurates Search Team for Substantive Vice Chancellor

The search for a new substantive Vice Chancellor has officially begun at Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU). The institution's Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Agwu U. Agwu, inaugurated a six-man Search Team on Wednesday to spearhead the recruitment process for the 9th Substantive Vice Chancellor.

The team, chaired by Professor Onwubiko Dike, includes Professor Anthony Obike, Professor Mary Oluchi Iwuagwu, Professor Sam Agu, Dr. Osita Igbe, and Dr. Uchenna Kalu as secretary. Their mandate is to identify and nominate suitable candidates, with a particular emphasis on individuals from Abia State, who possess the commitment and capacity to lead ABSU into the 21st century as a digital technology-driven university.

Dr. Agwu U. Agwu charged the team to operate with unity, transparency, diligence, and wide consultation, emphasizing that members were carefully selected based on their track records to represent various legal interest groups. He urged them to find a "square peg" for the position, acknowledging the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, for his dedication and contributions to the university's development during his tenure.

Professor Onwubiko Dike, on behalf of the Search Team, assured the Pro-Chancellor and the Governing Council that they would justify the confidence placed in them. The process follows Governor Alex Otti's appointment of Professor Okeudo in October 2024, who officially took office on November 1, 2024, succeeding Professor Maxwell Onyemachi Ogbulu.
