Academic network calls for protest ahead of university professor's appeal decision

The academic network "Slobodan univerzitet" has called for a public gathering outside the University of Novi Sad's Rectorate building. The demonstration is set to take place just before an expanded Senate session convenes to consider an appeal filed by Professor Vladimir Mihić.

Mihić is contesting a decision by the University Senate not to re-elect him to the position of associate professor. Following this initial decision, Mihić submitted an appeal, initiating a 30-day legal period during which the expanded Senate must make a final determination on his case. The expanded Senate, acting as a second-instance body, will review the professor's objection.

This situation arises after the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education's dean, Patrik Drid, reportedly filed objections twice regarding Mihić's re-election. The "Slobodan univerzitet" network urges citizens and members of the academic community to show support for Mihić by attending the protest, highlighting the importance of academic freedom and due process within the university system.
