Accident in Bautzen District: Novice Driver Crashes into Tree, Passenger Severely Injured

A serious accident occurred in the Bautzen district when an 18-year-old novice driver veered off the road and collided with a tree. The incident, which happened early Saturday morning, resulted in severe injuries to his 18-year-old passenger.

According to police reports, the young driver was navigating a roundabout when he repeatedly struck the guardrail. He then drove straight over the central island, broke through another guardrail, and left the roadway. The vehicle ultimately crashed head-on into a tree approximately 150 meters from the road.

The driver escaped the crash unharmed. An alcohol breath test administered at the scene indicated a blood alcohol content equivalent to 0.7 per mille. Consequently, police confiscated his driver's license and ordered a blood sample to be taken.

Authorities are now investigating the driver for multiple offenses, including endangering road traffic and negligent bodily harm. There is also suspicion of a hit-and-run, though the police have not yet disclosed the specific reasons for this suspicion. The estimated property damage from the accident is around 20,000 euros.
