Accord Party Affirms Olawepo-Hashim as 2027 Presidential Candidate

The Accord Party has officially affirmed businessman and politician Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim as its presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 general election. The affirmation followed the party's primaries held across several states, where Olawepo-Hashim secured a total of 423,902 affirmative votes. Although he was the sole aspirant and ran unopposed, the party conducted the primaries as a formal democratic endorsement process.

Party officials described the primaries as peaceful, transparent, and a clear reflection of the confidence members have in Olawepo-Hashim's leadership and vision for Nigeria. The affirmation primaries saw a substantial turnout of party members and supporters. The Returning Officer for Kebbi State, Yahaya Mohammed, announced the results, noting the exercise adhered to party guidelines and demonstrated overwhelming support for the candidate.

Jigawa State recorded the highest number of votes with 198,200, followed by Kano State with 124,101. Nasarawa State contributed 47,309 votes, Kebbi State 46,852, Kwara State 3,348, and Lagos State 4,548. Mohammed stated that the outcome underscores the growing support for Olawepo-Hashim and signals the party's readiness to ramp up mobilization efforts for the 2027 election.

Supporters of Olawepo-Hashim hailed his emergence as a major milestone, expressing optimism that the Accord Party can present a credible alternative in the next general election. They characterized him as a bridge-builder capable of fostering national unity and healing divisions, offering a platform for reconciliation and inclusion amid Nigeria's political and socio-economic challenges. Olawepo-Hashim, a former student activist, has a long history in Nigerian politics, having previously contested the presidency in 2019.
