Accord Party picks Ogun governorship candidate, assembly hopefuls

The Accord Party in Ogun State has chosen Okewole Olaniyi as its consensus candidate for the governorship in the upcoming 2027 elections. The announcement was made by the party's State Chairman, Michael Oke, during the party's primaries for governorship and House of Assembly aspirants held at its secretariat in Abeokuta.

Oke, who also led the electoral committee, explained that the consensus approach was adopted to foster unity and prevent internal disputes within the party. Alongside Olaniyi's nomination, the party unveiled its candidates for the state House of Assembly. Notable among them are Mr. Salami Monsuru for Ado-Odo/Ota 2 constituency, Mr. Jinadu Oyeniyi for Sagamu 1 constituency, and Mrs. Abulraheem Lateefat for Abeokuta North constituency.

He urged the nominated individuals to remain focused on promoting the party's manifesto and assured residents of the party's commitment to the development of Ogun State.

In his acceptance speech, delivered by Waheed Azeez, the Director-General of his campaign organization, Olaniyi expressed gratitude to the party leadership. He vowed to work towards enhancing governance within the state, aiming to fundamentally change the current political landscape. "We are making an attempt to effect a total overhauling of the status quo politically," Azeez conveyed on Olaniyi's behalf. "We believe that what we are witnessing at the state is not the best and the Accord party is poised to change it strategically and to bring about something positive that will help redefine good governance across the state."
