Acquitted of Abuse Charges, Man Hopes to Reunite with Son After Seven Years

After a seven-year legal ordeal, César Onzari has been acquitted of charges that he sexually abused his son. The La Plata court's decision brings an end to a process that prevented Onzari from having any contact with his child, who is now a 16-year-old teenager.

Onzari told La Nación that the situation began with a difficult separation from his partner when their son was very young. He initiated visitation and child support proceedings in 2012, facing constant postponements due to a lack of agreement. While he eventually secured scheduled visits, his requests for overnight stays to foster a stronger family bond were consistently met with objections filed with the Family Court. These objections included claims that the child was not returned clean, was not eating properly, or had sustained bruises.

The accusations escalated in 2017 when Onzari's ex-partner began making more serious claims, particularly as their son started spending more time with him. Onzari recounted an instance where his ex-partner falsely accused a friend who was babysitting of inappropriate behavior towards their son. Despite consulting a lawyer who advised preparing for a potential abuse accusation due to the escalating tone and volume of complaints, Onzari found the eventual charge difficult to believe.

The criminal case began in September 2019, following a confusing incident at school where a teacher questioned the boy about a story involving a character's discomfort. Onzari claims the teacher's questioning was mishandled, lacking proper documentation and involving the mother who then allegedly amplified the situation. This led to the suspension of visitation rights and the initiation of the criminal proceedings that have now concluded with his acquittal.
