Activist Sonam Wangchuk discharged from hospital, to visit Rajghat before returning home

Activist Sonam Wangchuk has been discharged from Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, six days after his admission. Wangchuk, who led a 26-day hunger strike at Jantar Mantar against the NEET paper leak, announced his release in a video posted on his X account.

"I am getting discharged today. I feel much better now, and my body is gaining strength slowly," Wangchuk stated in the video. He also mentioned his plan to visit Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi before returning to his home in Ladakh. He expressed gratitude for the public support during the students' protest at Jantar Mantar concerning the alleged NEET paper leak.

Medanta Hospital confirmed Wangchuk's stable condition at the time of discharge. "At the time of discharge, he was stable and alert with vital signs within normal range. He has been advised routine follow-up on an outpatient basis," said Dr. Sanjay Durani, medical superintendent at Medanta The Medicity.

Wangchuk was admitted to the hospital on July 21, following a 'Sansad Chalo' march in Delhi. He had previously been taken to Safdarjung Hospital on July 18, where he stayed for three days. His protest aimed at demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and advocating for broader reforms in the education system. He ended his hunger strike on July 24, a day before Pradhan's resignation.
