Actor Choi Won-young Reveals 'Daydreaming' Competition Prep and Fatherly Role Stories on 'Radio Star'

Actor Choi Won-young is set to appear on MBC's 'Radio Star' to share behind-the-scenes stories from his career, including how he became typecast as a father figure and his surprising second-place finish in a 'daydreaming' competition. The episode, airing at 10:30 p.m. KST, will feature Choi alongside Lee Tae-ran, Bada, and Martin in a special titled 'So Hip~ Between Fashion and Passion.'

Choi will recount how, from his late thirties while still unmarried, he began playing father roles. He revealed that he initially expressed concern to writer Kim Eun-sook about the small age gap with the actor playing his son in 'The Heirs,' but was reassured and took on the role. This led to subsequent fatherly roles in dramas like 'Sky Castle' and 'Hwarang.' He also shared a humorous anecdote about being surprised by the age of his 'son' when he appeared in 'Running Man.'

Further detailing his 'daydreaming' competition experience, Choi revealed he prepared extensively, even rehearsing at home the day before. He managed to remain in a daze for about an hour and a half, ultimately securing second place among approximately 70 finalists. He also presented his fashion concept for the competition, which involved floral socks and mismatched shoes, symbolizing the 'weariness of office workers.'

Choi emphasized his deep involvement in crafting character wardrobes, often sourcing or dyeing clothes himself. He noted that he purchased about 50% of the costumes for the drama 'Not Others' and also provided his own attire for 'Sky Castle,' demonstrating his commitment to embodying his characters. His fashion choices even earned him nicknames like 'finale villain' and 'fashion lackey' at drama wrap parties, where he showcased his custom-made outfits.
