Actress Ana Marija Veselčić Shares Childhood Photo, Reflects on Career

Croatian actress Ana Marija Veselčić, who gained wider public recognition for her role as Kate in the popular RTL series "Divlje pčele" (Wild Bees), recently shared a nostalgic childhood photograph on Instagram. The image, taken during the Christmas holidays, shows a smiling young Veselčić dressed in a colorful skirt and a "Disney" t-shirt, which she captioned as potentially being an album cover.

While television brought her broader fame, Veselčić boasts a rich theatrical and cinematic background, coupled with a compelling life story. Born in Vinkovci, she moved to Split to study acting at the Academy of Arts. Today, she is a member of the HNK Split drama ensemble and has established herself as a prominent young Croatian actress.

Her life journey has not been without challenges. At the age of six, she was placed in a children's home for those without adequate parental care, where she spent approximately 15 years. Veselčić has spoken openly about her upbringing, expressing discomfort with pity from others. She channeled her experiences into her original monodrama, "Domaši" (Homies), which explores the lives of children and youth in the institutional care system. This work earned her the Croatian Acting Award in 2020 for best contemporary Croatian drama text.

Beyond her stage work, Veselčić has achieved significant recognition in film, including an award at the Locarno Film Festival for her performance in "Bog neće pomoći" (God Will Not Help). Her role as Katarina Runje, the eldest of three sisters in "Divlje pčele," marked her first major television role and significantly boosted her popularity. Veselčić noted that her character reminded her of her own grandmother, describing Katarina as an independent and intelligent woman who, like her grandmother, had to fight against adversity. Though originally from Slavonia, Veselčić has lived in Split for years, describing her identity as a blend of "Slavonian soul and Dalmatian spirit."
