Actress Tasha Low reveals what filming Yes Captain! inside Changi Prison was really like

Filming Mediacorp's new English drama "Yes Captain!" inside the real Changi Prison offered actress Tasha Low an unparalleled immersive experience, despite the challenges of being cut off from the outside world. The drama, which premiered on National Day, features Low as a rookie prison officer.

Low, accustomed to girl-next-door roles, found the prison environment, though warm and poorly ventilated, instrumental in helping the cast fully embody their characters. The daily routine involved surrendering phones and working without clocks, creating a sense of disconnection that aided their performances. "We were almost completely disconnected from the outside world until filming wrapped," Low told Lianhe Zaobao.

While the actress enjoyed the "cool" look of her uniform and the freedom of movement it provided, she hopes to explore more complex roles in the future. Off-screen, Low's schedule remains demanding, with another Chinese drama currently in production. This hectic pace has limited her personal time, particularly with her family and cat.
