Adama Traoré's extraordinary Deportivo debut: a stunning own goal with his head

Some debuts are difficult to imagine, and Adama Traoré's first appearance for Deportivo de La Coruña belongs among them. The Spanish winger entered against Villarreal in the 65th minute, then produced a spectacular but unfortunate moment just 10 minutes later.

With the score tied at 1-1, Traoré dropped back to help the defense when a cross entered the area. The forward tried to clear the ball with his head, but struck it with unexpected power. It flew directly toward his own goal, leaving goalkeeper Leo Román unable to prevent Villarreal from taking a 2-1 lead.

The mistake appeared likely to turn Traoré's debut into a nightmare. Deportivo needed only three minutes to respond, however. Dutch forward Zakaria Eddahchouri scored with his first touch after coming on, converting another assist from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and making it 2-2.

The comeback was completed in the 88th minute. Aubameyang capitalized on a Villarreal mistake in midfield, attacked the open space and finished past Luiz Júnior to seal the 3-2 victory.

Traoré's remarkable own goal ultimately became an anecdote within a valuable win for Deportivo. He had entered to make his debut, put the ball into his own net 10 minutes later and ended the match relieved that the comeback kept his error from deciding the result. Deportivo's strong start continued, with eight points from four matches and no defeats.
