ADC to Tinubu: Kaiama, Borno Victims Also Matter, Security Crisis Requires Action

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu of creating a perception that some victims of insecurity matter more than others. The party urged the president to provide updates and timelines for the rescue of 176 residents abducted from the Woro community in Kaiama, Kwara State, who have been held captive since February 3, 2026. The ADC highlighted that the president's celebration of a recent rescue in Oyo State raised questions about the fate of those still held in Kaiama, Borno, and other regions.

In a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC pointed to the recent abduction of 40 residents in Zamfara, fresh attacks in Benue, and the kidnapping of Kebbi High Court Judge, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, as proof that insecurity remains widespread despite presidential assurances. The party described Tinubu as "a professional statement-maker" on security matters, arguing that repeated promises of an end to insecurity are no longer convincing. They urged the president to demonstrate through action that every Nigerian life holds equal value.

Every successful rescue of abducted Nigerians deserves to be celebrated. But the President must ensure that his actions do not create the impression that the value of a Nigerian life depends on where the victim comes from or whether the tragedy attracts national headlines.

The ADC expressed concern over a pattern in the Tinubu administration's response to insecurity, where some victims receive swift presidential attention while others are allegedly left "to languish in silence." The party stated, "Every successful rescue of abducted Nigerians deserves to be celebrated. But the President must ensure that his actions do not create the impression that the value of a Nigerian life depends on where the victim comes from or whether the tragedy attracts national headlines."

The party referenced a peaceful protest by residents of Kaiama Local Government Area on Friday, July 24, 2026, concerning the 176 abducted individuals. More than 170 days later, families are still seeking answers about their loved ones' whereabouts and the government's actions. The party also noted recent abductions in Zamfara, attacks in Benue, and the kidnapping of Justice Bunza, underscoring the ongoing security challenges.
