Adeboye, Polish Ambassador Celebrate Friendship at Historic Abuja Watch Party

A unique blend of sports, diplomacy, and cultural exchange unfolded in Abuja as Nigeria and Poland celebrated their friendship with a historic football match viewing party. The event took place at the VIP Lounge of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Wednesday, drawing a distinguished crowd.

Hosted by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, in collaboration with the Polish Embassy in Nigeria, the gathering was hailed as a significant sports diplomacy event. Dignitaries included Rt Hon. Philip Shaibu, Director General of the National Institute for Sports; Engr. Cornelius O. Adebayo, CEO of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority; Senator Gbenga Elegbeleye, Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL); ambassadors from several European Union countries; and Nigerian football legends like Victor Ikpeba, Samson Siasia, and Waidi Akanni.

The event coincided with an international friendly match where Nigeria and Poland played to a thrilling 2-2 draw. Hon. Adeboye described the evening as a resounding success, emphasizing sports' power to unite people across borders, politics, religion, and culture. "Tonight was beyond football. It was about friendship, unity, diplomacy, networking, and strengthening relationships through sports," Adeboye stated. He added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on youth engagement and international cooperation.
