Adebutu emerges Ogun PDP governorship candidate

Oladipupo Adebutu has secured the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) nomination as its 2027 governorship candidate for Ogun State, Nigeria. Adebutu, who previously ran for the position in 2023, was affirmed as the consensus flag bearer during the party's primary held in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Dear party compatriots, the All Progressives Congress has been in government in Ogun State for over a decade and a half under different nomenclatures, holding our dear state under siege while our people groan under hardship.

The primary process involved a voice affirmation by PDP members from all 20 local government areas and 236 wards in the state. Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission were present to witness the affirmation, which was led by the PDP Governorship Primary Committee Chairman for Ogun State, Afolabi Ariyo.

Whereas we live in abundance and surplus, and have been blessed with both natural and human resources, we are strategically and geographically positioned within the country. Yet, our state remains in dire need of competent leadership with ingenuity, purpose, and direction.

In his acceptance speech, Adebutu thanked party members for their support and expressed determination to remove the All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in 2027. He claimed that the APC has misgoverned the state for over 15 years, inflicting hardship on residents. Adebutu asserted that Ogun State, despite its resources, lacks competent leadership and that the PDP is prepared to offer good governance.

Therefore, our collective responsibility now should be focused on returning our party to the seat of power in Oke-Mosan in order to rescue our people from suffering and maladministration.

Adebutu, who believes he was denied victory in the 2023 election due to manipulation, stated his confidence that voters' choices will be respected in 2027. He indicated that the PDP's policy direction for rescuing and developing the state would be revealed in due course, emphasizing the party's readiness to provide effective leadership.

Thankfully, the PDP in Ogun State is more than ready to provide good governance for the rescue and development of our dear state. Our policy direction will be unveiled in due course.
