Adeleke Campaign Petitions IG Over Fadahunsi’s ‘Kill Accord Members’ Remark

The campaign organization for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally requested immediate protection for members and supporters of the Accord Party. The Imole Campaign Council submitted a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, expressing grave concerns over alleged remarks made by Senator Francis Fadahunsi.

Members and supporters of Accord, particularly within Ilesa and other parts of Osun East Senatorial District, are entitled to the protection of the Nigeria Police Force irrespective of their political affiliation.

The petition centers on a video circulating on social media, which the council claims contains inflammatory comments by the senator representing Osun East Senatorial District. While Senator Fadahunsi has denied making the statement, he was reportedly invited by the Osun State Police Command and honored the invitation. The council's spokesman, Pelumi Olajengbesi, stated that if authenticated, these comments pose a significant threat to the lives of Accord members, particularly in Ilesa and other areas within the Osun East Senatorial District.

No Nigerian should have to fear being attacked or killed because of the political party he or she supports. No eligible voter should have to choose between exercising the right to vote and protecting his or her life.

Consequently, the campaign council is demanding the deployment of sufficient security personnel to safeguard Accord members and supporters before, during, and after the upcoming governorship election. They emphasize that all Nigerian citizens are entitled to police protection, regardless of their political affiliation, and that no one should fear for their life when exercising their right to vote.

Ensure that polling units, collation centres and other strategic electoral locations receive adequate and impartial police protection so that citizens can exercise their franchise without violence, intimidation or harassment.

Furthermore, the petition calls for adequate and impartial police protection at all polling units, collation centers, and other strategic electoral locations. This measure aims to ensure that voters can cast their ballots without facing intimidation or harassment. The council also urged the Inspector-General to initiate criminal proceedings against Senator Fadahunsi and any other individuals found to be culpable, should an investigation confirm the allegations.

Where the investigation and authentication of the evidence establish reasonable grounds to suspect the commission of an offence, immediately exercise the lawful powers of the Nigeria Police Force, including the arrest of Senator Francis Ade Fadahunsi and any other person found culpable, and commence or cause the commencement of appropriate criminal proceedings in accordance with law.
