Adeleke's campaign team petitions British High Commission, IG over Osun poll

The Imole Campaign Council, the political engine behind Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has escalated its concerns about the upcoming August 15 governorship election by lodging petitions with the British High Commission and Nigeria's Inspector-General of Police. The group is demanding a transparent and credible electoral process, emphasizing the election's significance as a national benchmark for democratic integrity.

We have written to the British High Commission on the current political situation in Osun State. I believe you all are aware that on the 15th of August, 2026, the people of Osun will proceed to vote in the coming state governorship election.

Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council's spokesperson, stated in Abuja that the election's credibility is paramount, serving as a critical test for Nigeria's electoral bodies, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the police, in preparation for the 2027 general elections. "It is important for the entire world to know that the coming election is important to Nigeria and the world," Olajengbesi said, calling for international and federal government intervention to ensure fairness.

This has prompted a plea for vigilance from international organizations, observers, and civil society groups to guarantee a free and fair election where the will of the Osun people prevails.
