Adeleke suspends NURTW operations in all Osun motor parks

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the immediate suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks throughout the state. This decisive action, taken during a meeting of the Osun State Security Council, is intended to restore order and bolster public security.

The directive mandates that police and other security agencies cease all NURTW operations within the parks, though the parks themselves will remain open. Governor Adeleke stressed that anyone found operating under the guise of the union would be arrested for disturbing public peace. The decision follows extensive deliberations on the state's security situation and the need to bring sanity to motor parks.

I hereby direct the Police and other security agencies to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. I am not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union.

To ensure strict enforcement, Governor Adeleke has approved the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad. This squad will comprise personnel from all security agencies operating within Osun State. The meeting was attended by top security officials from various bodies, including the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, Army, Air Force, Navy, Civil Defence Corps, NDLEA, Immigration Service, Correctional Service, FRSC, NAPTIP, and the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun).

Security agency heads present at the meeting assured the governor of their commitment to rigorously enforce the directive. The suspension does not include the closure of the parks, but rather targets the union's activities and the collection of levies within them. The governor also ordered the arrest of anyone parading as an official or executive of the union in any motor park.
