Adeshina makes Bowerman Award semis

Nigerian high jumper Temitope Adeshina is on the cusp of collegiate athletics greatness after being named one of 10 semi-finalists for the prestigious Bowerman Award. This award represents the highest individual honor in U.S. collegiate track and field.

Adeshina, who was recently recognized as the USTFCCCA Female Athlete of the Year, secured her spot on the shortlist following an undefeated collegiate season for Texas Tech. She dominated the high jump throughout both the indoor and outdoor seasons, culminating in victories at the NCAA Division I Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

Her success includes defending her NCAA indoor crown in March with a season-best jump of 1.97 meters, placing her joint fifth on the all-time collegiate indoor list. She continued her strong performance outdoors, achieving a best clearance of 1.96 meters to win the NCAA outdoor title and finish the season tied for the national lead.

The Bowerman semi-finalist list features exceptional athletes who collectively won 17 NCAA titles and set multiple collegiate records. Adeshina's rivals include BYU's Jane Hedengren, who broke records in the 5,000m and 10,000m, and Georgia's Adaejah Hodge, who set new records in the 100m and 200m. The finalists will be announced on June 29, with the winners crowned in December.
