AfD politician allegedly attacked youths over damaged election posters

A politician from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is under investigation after allegedly attacking two youths in Stendal who were suspected of damaging party election posters. The incident occurred on Thursday evening, with local media reporting that the youths were observed defacing AfD posters.

According to police reports cited by MDR, a 43-year-old German man, identified by media as AfD Member of the European Parliament Arno Bausemer, pursued and attacked the youths. Reports indicate that a "suspected blunt instrument" may have been used during the altercation, and one of the youths required medical treatment for injuries.

Bausemer, who reportedly benefits from parliamentary immunity as an MEP, addressed the incident on Facebook. He posted a photo of himself holding one of the youths, stating he caught them "red-handed" after a brief chase and resistance. He maintained that he was able to detain the individual.

Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing. They noted that even with immunity, criminal proceedings can be initiated if immunity is lifted.
