Afghan woman faces deportation over alleged ISIS plot

An Afghan woman accused of aiding an Islamic State plot to carry out a mass shooting in the United States is set to appear in a special terrorism court on Thursday. This marks the first case heard by the court, known as the Accelerated Terrorism Detention Center (ATRC), since its establishment in 1996. The woman holds permanent residency in the U.S. and has no prior convictions. Her son was previously sentenced to 15 years in prison last year for planning an attack intended for Election Day in the 2024 presidential election. Court documents reveal that the son and his accomplices attempted to purchase two AK-47 rifles and 500 rounds of ammunition for what they described as a "mass killing attack." An FBI document states that the woman had "formally sworn allegiance" to the Islamic State and supported her son's "conspiracy." The deportation hearing is being conducted under the auspices of the ATRC, a specialized court designed to handle terrorism-related cases.
