Afghanistan approves $99 million in developmental projects

Afghanistan's Procurement Commission has given the green light to 21 developmental projects, collectively valued at approximately $99 million (6.5 billion Afghanis). These initiatives are designed to bolster crucial infrastructure and enhance public services throughout the country.

The approved projects, announced by Hamdullah Fitrat, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, span a range of sectors. Key among them are the reconstruction of the Manaqi Hydroelectric Dam in Kunar Province and the procurement of scanners for customs at airports in Kabul, Herat, Nangarhar, Balkh, and Khost. Additionally, the plan includes the construction of public hospitals in Helmand, Badakhshan, Maidan Wardak, and Kunduz provinces, alongside various power supply and distribution projects.

This significant investment in development follows Afghanistan's recent declaration of a strategic shift. The nation has stated its focus is moving away from managing conflict towards strengthening diplomatic and economic ties, prioritizing reconstruction, and improving public services. Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor, Charge d'Affaires at Afghanistan's Embassy in India, highlighted this transition, emphasizing the advancement of regional economic projects and support for the private sector as key indicators of this new direction.

Noor further elaborated on the importance of regional economic and transit initiatives, describing them as fundamental for Afghanistan's economic growth and enhanced regional connectivity. He noted that the implementation of long-term plans in economic growth, energy, urban development, health, and infrastructure, coupled with efforts to maintain the stability of the Afghan currency, demonstrates a clear vision for sustainable development beyond short-term measures.
