After Chen Ying-jie’s farewell, Xu Chang-de praises Li Bing-hui’s generosity

Li Bing-hui could not attend Chen Ying-jie’s funeral, but musician Xu Chang-de said his kindness still reached Chen’s family in a deeply meaningful way.

Chen, a major figure in Taiwanese-language pop, died in early August. Her funeral ended on Aug. 30, with performers including Hu Gua, Yang Kuei-mei, Wang Can and Lung Chien-yu attending to say goodbye.

Xu, who had remained concerned about Chen during her final stage of life, explained that Li had asked how to get to the funeral. Xu told him, “Your heart is more beautiful than the sun. We are people like that,” and advised him to stay home and care for his wife. Li also has limited mobility, while his wife has health problems.

Xu said Li later became the only person to make a large donation that helped Chen’s older sister live more securely after the public memorial ceremony. Li reportedly divided small donations that people had recently given him, giving part to Chen’s sister and using Chen’s name to help another veteran entertainer in hardship. He decided to set aside more for the next person who needed help, even though he himself relies on assistance.
