After Russia-US Talks, Moscow Says Witkoff and Kushner Offered a Plan to End the War

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner presented proposals aimed at ending the war in Ukraine during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, according to Russian officials.

Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov said the meeting lasted about three hours and was constructive, trust-based and useful. He said the discussions covered the Ukraine crisis, current international issues and relations between Russia and the United States. It was the envoys’ eighth visit, Ushakov said, and Putin received them personally.

Ushakov said Putin appreciated the United States’ mediation role and thanked President Donald Trump for his efforts to resolve the conflict. He said the Russian side provided a broad assessment of the situation surrounding what Moscow calls its “special military operation,” including its view that Russian forces were advancing at the front and would achieve their objectives.

Russia also stressed what it described as the need to eliminate the root causes of the crisis. Ushakov said Putin confirmed that Moscow was ready to continue working with the United States toward a political and diplomatic settlement. He added that Witkoff and Kushner had offered several possible solutions, rather than merely expressing a desire for the fighting to end quickly.

The envoys were expected to travel to Kyiv after their Moscow meetings and use Putin’s views in talks there on a lasting peaceful settlement. Ushakov said Russia and the United States had agreed to continue work through the two representatives and maintain personal contact between their leaders. The meeting also covered economic issues and potentially large projects that could benefit both countries. A White House official said the talks addressed concrete plans for steps to end the war.
