Agostina Hein withdraws from South American Games to recover from appendicitis surgery

Agostina Hein will not compete at the South American Games in Rosario after undergoing emergency surgery for appendicitis on Aug. 28. The 18-year-old Argentine swimmer confirmed her withdrawal after reviewing her recovery.

Hein said she decided to respect the required recovery period rather than risk extending her absence from competition. A complication such as a hernia could have kept her out of the water for more than a month, she said.

She acknowledged how sad it was to miss the competition in Rosario, which runs from Sept. 12 to 26, but said protecting her health and following the medical timetable had to come first. “Thank you all for understanding us and continuing to support us this year.
