Ahn Hyun-min drives KT past Hanwha and back into first as Eagles suffer ninth straight loss

KT Wiz erased an early four-run deficit to beat the Hanwha Eagles 13-11 in a high-scoring game in Suwon on September 3, reclaiming first place in the 2026 KBO League as Hanwha fell into its ninth consecutive loss.

Hanwha took control in the first inning when Kim Tae-yeon hit a three-run homer as the Eagles scored five runs. Hwang Young-mook’s two-run single in the third extended their lead to 7-3. KT responded with Ahn Hyun-min’s back-to-back home runs, his 11th and 12th of the season, before timely hits by Jang Jin-hyuk and Choi Won-jun put KT ahead 8-7 in the fifth.

KT added two runs in the sixth and three in the eighth to secure the win. Ahn went 2-for-3 with two homers, two walks and five RBIs. Hanwha scored three runs against KT closer Park Young-hyun in the ninth, but could not complete the comeback. The Eagles have won only once in their past 16 games, while pitcher Wang Yen-cheng allowed six runs over 3⅓ innings.

Samsung dropped to second after losing 3-2 to Lotte in Daegu, ending a seven-game winning streak. Lotte’s Jeremy Beasley allowed two runs over seven innings and earned his ninth win. Han Dong-hee tied the game with a two-run homer in the sixth, and Na Seung-yeop drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth as Lotte ended a six-game losing streak.

LG completed a three-game sweep of Doosan with a 1-0 win in Seoul and moved to a four-game winning streak. Second-year pitcher Park Si-won allowed no runs over five innings for his first professional win. Austin Dean hit his 36th homer, moving within three of KIA slugger Kim Do-young’s league-leading 39. LG said Ko Woo-seok did not pitch after a pregame check found he was not ready to appear.
