AI data firm Palantir sees revenue jump over 90 percent

Data analysis firm Palantir experienced a significant surge in business last quarter, with revenue climbing 93 percent year-over-year to nearly $1.94 billion. This growth substantially surpassed analyst expectations, who had projected around $1.8 billion in earnings. The company's performance indicates a nearly doubling of revenue in just one year, with a roughly 20 percent increase within the last three months alone.

Palantir specializes in analyzing vast amounts of data, providing software used by intelligence and military agencies. CEO Alex Karp is leveraging this business momentum to position Palantir as a crucial alternative to leading AI developers like OpenAI and Anthropic. Karp argues that Palantir acts as an essential intermediary, enabling clients to maintain full control over their data when utilizing AI software from other providers and allowing them to switch between AI vendors if needed.

"The big AI labs always deny using customer data to train their AI models," Karp stated in a video conference with analysts. "However, companies are paying money to have their knowledge incorporated into AI models so that a competing business can be built with it."

The strong performance, particularly from its US operations, fueled Palantir's growth. US revenue more than doubled to $1.57 billion in the past quarter. Business with government agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and the Pentagon, grew by 90 percent to $809 million. Commercial business in the US saw an even more impressive increase of 149 percent, reaching $764 million.

Following the positive results, Palantir's stock rose approximately 14 percent in after-hours trading. The company also raised its revenue forecast for the full year and exceeded market expectations with its projection for the current quarter, signaling continued optimism for its business trajectory.
