AI factory launches in Tallinn, background with Russia alarms security experts

Dutch AI cloud company Nebius is significantly expanding its artificial intelligence infrastructure across Europe, announcing the launch of its largest data center in the Baltics. The new facility, located in Tallinn, Estonia, at Greenergy Data Centers, is set to begin operations later this year with a substantial 22-megawatt capacity.

The company is actively recruiting personnel in Estonia to staff the new AI hub. Nebius, which emerged as the legal successor to the Russian technology giant Yandex, has stated that it has officially severed all ties with Russia. However, this expansion and its origins have raised concerns among security experts.

Security experts are particularly wary of Nebius due to its historical links and past collaboration with Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB). Despite the company's claims of disassociation from its Russian roots, the legacy of its connection to the FSB continues to cast a shadow over its European operations and expansion plans.
