AI Firm Anthropic Surpasses OpenAI in Valuation After $65 Billion Funding Round

Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic has surged ahead of its rival OpenAI in corporate valuation, securing $65 billion in its latest Series H funding round. Following the investment, Anthropic's valuation soared to $965 billion, significantly surpassing OpenAI's March valuation of $852 billion. This latest funding round represents a more than 2.5-fold increase from Anthropic's valuation of $380 billion during its previous funding round in February.

Anthropic also reported a significant increase in its revenue, with its monthly revenue, when annualized, exceeding $47 billion. This figure nearly doubles OpenAI's annualized revenue of $25 billion as of February. The company highlighted the participation of major memory chip manufacturers, including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron, in this funding round.

Anthropic emphasized the strategic importance of these new partners, describing them as "critical to the global supply of memory, storage, and logic chips." The company stated that this partnership will help "stably scale computing at the speed our customers require." This collaboration suggests a deepening integration between AI development and the semiconductor industry.

In parallel with the funding news, Anthropic unveiled 'Opus 4.8,' an updated version of its flagship AI model. The company cited 'honesty' as the most significant improvement, noting that the new model is four times less likely to overlook flaws in its own code compared to previous versions. Benchmark tests indicate that Opus 4.8 outperforms OpenAI's GPT-5.5 and Google's Gemini Pro 3.1 across most metrics, signaling intense competition in the advanced AI model market.
