AI Gives Defenders the Edge in Cybersecurity, Says Microsoft VP Who Led DARPA Challenge Winners

A Microsoft vice president believes artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the cybersecurity landscape, giving defenders an unprecedented advantage. Kim Tae-soo, who led the team that won the U.S. DARPA AI Cyber Challenge, explained that AI enables defenders to analyze attack code with the same tireless efficiency as attackers.

"Until now, security has basically been a game where the attacker has the advantage," Kim said. "But now, defenders, thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), can tirelessly scan vast amounts of attack code. Defenders are starting to have capabilities on a similar scale to attackers for the first time."
