AI platform unlocks opportunities for young Nigerians

A new artificial intelligence platform, YouthDesk.ai, has launched in Nigeria to tackle the fragmented access to opportunities for young people. The platform, founded by Alabi Opeyemi, Senior Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, aims to consolidate jobs, scholarships, grants, internships, and skills-development programs onto a single digital space.

A key feature of YouthDesk.ai is 'AI Padi,' an AI-powered assistant designed to offer personalized guidance. The platform also includes an 'Opportunity Hub,' which aggregates a wide range of resources. This initiative was developed in response to the difficulties young Nigerians face in finding reliable information about opportunities, particularly those with limited access to formal networks.

Beyond connecting individual users, YouthDesk.ai is intended to foster collaboration between young people, grassroots leaders, private sector organizations, government agencies, NGOs, and development partners. Opeyemi stated that the platform is conceived as an "opportunity infrastructure and ecosystem" inspired by Governor Sanwo-Olu's focus on youth development.

Partnerships with businesses, government agencies, and development organizations will be crucial in creating pathways for employment, entrepreneurship, training, and mentorship. The platform specifically targets young people in grassroots communities where access to information is often constrained by location and limited digital networks. The initiative is set to be officially unveiled on September 3, with an expected demonstration of its capabilities.
