Air India to launch direct Guwahati-Dubai, Abu Dhabi flights from Aug. 4

Air India is set to launch direct flights from Guwahati, India, to Dubai and Abu Dhabi on August 4, a move hailed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as a significant step in bolstering the state's international connectivity. Sarma emphasized that this development positions Guwahati as a crucial travel and transit hub within the region.

The announcement comes shortly after European Union member states lifted their travel advisory for Assam, signaling new opportunities for global engagement. Chief Minister Sarma expressed optimism on X, stating, "Opening new avenues to connect Assam to the global community. Just days after EU member states lifted their travel advisory for Assam, I am happy to share that from August 4, Air India will commence direct flights from Guwahati to Dubai and Abu Dhabi."

These new non-stop services will enhance access to Assam and the Northeast, connecting Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to four countries: the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Singapore, and Bhutan. The state government is actively pursuing further expansion of Guwahati's international air network, with direct flights to Vietnam being the next objective.

The initiative is part of Assam's strategy to improve global connectivity, stimulate tourism, attract investment, and facilitate travel for business professionals, students, and the diaspora. The government aims to transform Guwahati into a gateway to Southeast Asia, fostering trade, cultural exchange, and economic cooperation. Sarma described the flights as a substantial boost to establishing Guwahati as a major aviation hub linking Northeast India with Southeast Asia and the global economy.
