Airport tram to resume service Friday; three new trolleybus lines launch

Tallinn is set to implement its most substantial public transport overhaul in recent years, with significant network changes taking effect on August 1st. The city will see the restoration of tram services directly to Tallinn Airport, a move anticipated to enhance accessibility for travelers. Additionally, three new trolleybus lines, utilizing modern battery-powered vehicles, will commence operations.

The new trolleybus routes are numbered 72, 81, and 83. These battery-powered trolleys represent an advancement in the city's public transit fleet, offering flexibility and potentially extending service reach. The introduction of these lines is part of a broader strategy to modernize and expand public transportation options within the Estonian capital.

Trams will reach the airport again, we will complete the restoration of trolleybus traffic on five lines, and nearly a third of Tallinn's bus lines will operate on new routes, bringing better connections, new travel opportunities, and more convenient transfers to many areas.

Beyond the airport tram and new trolleybus routes, the overhaul impacts nearly a third of Tallinn's bus lines. These adjustments are designed to create new travel paths, improve connections to various districts, and streamline transfers between different modes of transport. City officials describe these changes as a crucial foundation for future developments, including potential extensions of trolleybus routes to areas like Lasnamäe and Haabersti, and further development of tram lines.
