AIT Director optimistic about Taiwan's drone potential; Taichung to host international forum

American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Director Brent Christensen has expressed optimism about Taiwan's potential in the drone industry. In response, Taichung City will collaborate with AIT and industry associations to host the "2026 Taichung Drone Industry and Overseas Business Opportunities Forum" on July 2. The event aims to foster international connections and accelerate the development of next-generation strategic industries.

The forum, to be held at the city hall, will focus on key areas such as drone components, system integration, intelligent applications, and supply chain cooperation. It seeks to create a vital platform for engaging with international markets and leveraging resources from the United States, Japan, and Europe. This initiative is part of Taichung's strategy to enhance its industrial competitiveness on a global scale.

Unmanned vehicles have become an important direction for both national defense strategy and industrial development.

Taichung is considered well-positioned to develop the unmanned vehicle sector, boasting a strong foundation in aerospace, semiconductors, precision machinery, and optics. Currently, approximately 50 companies in the greater Taichung, Changhua, and Nantou region are involved in drone-related fields. These companies cover various aspects, including airframe manufacturing, key component production, optical sensors, communication modules, and application services. The city government is committed to supporting these businesses and strengthening the industrial supply chain.
