Aix-en-Provence: Detainee suspected of pimping attempts escape during hospital transfer

A detainee in Aix-en-Provence, facing charges of aggravated pimping, attempted to escape from police custody during a hospital visit. The 29-year-old prisoner was being transferred for medical treatment before a scheduled police interrogation.

The incident occurred late Monday evening when the man, described as agitated, was taken to the Centre Hospitalier du Pays d'Aix. Shortly after leaving the hospital around 2 a.m., he seized an opportunity to flee.

Authorities quickly launched a pursuit involving multiple police units, including the night-time anti-crime brigade (BAC) and a local security group. The escapee was apprehended about an hour after his flight, confirmed by the public prosecutor of Aix-en-Provence, Jean-Luc Blachon.

This is not the first such incident in the region. In December 2025, another alleged pimp managed to escape during a transfer to a Marseille police station for questioning. That 20-year-old detainee had opened his cell and exited through an emergency door but was recaptured by investigators in March.
