AJK Election Commission announces schedule for polling on reserved seats

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has set August 24 as the date for polling to elect members to reserved seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly. This announcement outlines the process for filling five seats designated for women, one for Ulema-e-Deen or Mushaikh, one for Jammu & Kashmir State Subjects residing abroad, and one for technocrats and other professionals.

According to the schedule released on Sunday, the polling will occur within the AJK Assembly from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The nomination process for candidates is set to begin on August 20, with the returning officer accepting papers between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The commission has invoked its powers under Rule 76 (2) of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Elections Rules, 2020, to call upon the directly elected members to participate in this election.

This electoral exercise is a crucial step in completing the assembly's composition, ensuring representation across various segments of society as mandated by the region's electoral laws. The process is expected to conclude with the final announcement of elected members for these specialized categories.
