AKP Mayor of Gebeceler Resigns Amidst Affair Allegations and Legal Proceedings

Gebeceler Mayor İsa Atay has resigned from his position amidst allegations of an extramarital affair. The resignation follows a legal complaint filed by a married woman who accused Atay of blackmail, threats, invasion of privacy, unlawful dissemination of personal data, defamation, and abuse of public office.

The legal proceedings were initiated after the woman approached the prosecutor's office with these accusations. While no official reason for Atay's resignation has been publicly stated, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) has confirmed his departure from party membership.

In a statement released by the AKP's Afyonkarahisar Provincial Directorate, the party announced, "Merkez Gebeceler Mayor İsa Atay has resigned from AK Party membership, and his path has diverged from our party. We respectfully announce this to the public."
