The allegations against Jones surfaced in late 2023 through a series of stories published in the Sydney Morning Herald. In November 2024, police arrested Jones at his apartment. At the time, NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb stated that "There's no such thing as a matter that's too old to be investigated." Jones was granted bail and later appeared in court, with his then-lawyer asserting that the allegations were "baseless" and had not been tested or proven.
