Alberta teen arrested after school shooting threat made in Manning

A 16-year-old from Manning, Alberta, faces charges after allegedly threatening to shoot students on the first day of school. The arrest followed an investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) after they received word of the threat on August 19.

Police in Manning, located approximately 570 km northwest of Edmonton, were alerted to a student's alleged plan to carry out a shooting on Tuesday, September 1. The specific school targeted was not disclosed. "We want the public to know that we take every threat to our children’s safety seriously," stated Sgt. Gavin Ool, detachment commander of the Manning RCMP.

During the investigation, which involved collaboration with school partners and the Peace River School Division, authorities searched a local home and seized seven firearms.
