Alcaraz Beats Wu Yibing in Straight Sets to Reach US Open Fourth Round

Carlos Alcaraz absorbed an early challenge from Wu Yibing, then raised his level when the match demanded it. The defending champion beat the Chinese player 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 to move into the fourth round of the US Open.

The match marked Alcaraz’s first tournament appearance since April, when a right wrist injury interrupted his season. Despite surrendering a break lead in both the first and second sets, the Spaniard responded at crucial moments and built a two-set advantage.

Wu, ranked 113th in the PIF ATP rankings, matched Alcaraz’s aggressive forehands and created pressure during the opening sets. The Chinese player continued to fight in the third, earning two break points in the opening game. Alcaraz saved both chances before pulling away.

The victory extended Alcaraz’s winning run at Grand Slam tournaments to 17 matches. That streak includes his Australian Open title run earlier this year. He missed the French Open and Wimbledon because of injury.

Alcaraz will next face Tommy Paul. The American reached the fourth round by defeating Alexander Bublik 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-3. Paul trails Alcaraz 2-6 in their career meetings and is seeking to become the only active American men’s player to reach the quarter-finals at all four Grand Slam tournaments.
