Alcaraz Returns to US Open With Victory as Sabalenka Starts Title Defense Strongly

Carlos Alcaraz ended a 139-day absence from singles competition with a composed US Open victory, easing one of the tournament’s biggest uncertainties. The defending champion beat Russia’s Roman Safiullin 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Monday in New York.
