Aldrin Gómez Named Ecuador’s Presidential Legal Secretary as Enrique Herrería Resigns

Aldrin Gómez has taken over as Ecuador’s Presidential Legal Secretary after President Daniel Noboa accepted the resignation of Enrique Herrería. The change was announced by the presidency on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

The presidency said the decision followed the completion of a commitment to build a professional team within the legal secretariat. That team, it said, would coordinate the drafting of rules and help accelerate the modernization of the state.

“Enrique Herrería’s work is recognized and valued, and the presidency thanks him for his dedication and commitment to serving the government and the country,” the presidency said. Herrería will return to his professional activities in the private sector.

Gómez previously worked as the presidency’s deputy general legal secretary, a post he held from December 2025. He is a lawyer specializing in constitutional, tax, economic and financial law, and holds a master’s degree in economic analysis of law and public policy from the University of Salamanca.

His earlier roles included advising Hernán Salgado, who led Ecuador’s Constitutional Court, and advising the 2019 selection commission for the court. In 2017, Gómez coordinated sponsorship and administrative case files at the Ministry of Mining and worked as a legal analyst at Ecuador’s Council of the Judiciary.
