Algeria accelerates major infrastructure projects, including phosphate complex and Trans-Saharan railway

Algeria is prioritizing significant infrastructure and hydrocarbon projects as part of its strategy to diversify its economy beyond oil and gas. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune recently chaired a crucial working meeting focused on these "structuring projects," signaling a push towards economic sovereignty and increased export capacity.

A central focus is the integrated phosphate project, designed for the production of fertilizer, ammonia, and urea. This complex is slated to commence production in the first quarter of 2027. Its launch will coincide with the completion of expansion work at the port of Annaba, which will be ready to handle the first phosphate cargo shipments to the international market.

In this context, the integrated phosphate project will enter the production phase during the first quarter of the year 2027.

In parallel, Algeria is moving forward with the highly strategic Trans-Saharan railway project, connecting Algiers to Tamanrasset in the south. The financing for this endeavor has been definitively approved, with construction work set to begin no later than September. To optimize efficiency and reduce completion times, the project will be executed simultaneously across three interconnected construction sites: Ouargla-In Salah, In Salah-Tamanrasset, and Tamanrasset-In Salah (with reverse work to accelerate the junction).

These initiatives underscore Algeria's commitment to transforming its natural resources into sustainable development drivers and establishing a modern transportation network. The projects aim to enhance economic integration within Algeria and support its export ambitions across the African continent.
