Algeria's Women's Team Reaches Africa Cup of Nations Semifinals for First Time

Algeria's women's national football team has made history by reaching the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time. The team secured their historic advancement by defeating Ivory Coast 2-1 in a dramatic quarter-final match.

The match, played at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca, saw Ivory Coast take the lead in the 31st minute, a goal that was met with protests from the Algerian side. The complexion of the game shifted when an Ivorian player received a red card in the 42nd minute.

Algeria capitalized on their numerical advantage, with Ines Khairi equalizing in the 58th minute. Despite Ivory Coast missing a penalty just three minutes later, Amira Ould Braham scored the winning goal in the 64th minute with a powerful shot, sealing Algeria's place in the next round.

Algeria will now face the winner of the Ghana vs. Malawi match in the semifinals. This historic achievement also guarantees them a spot in the 2027 Women's World Cup, which will be held in Brazil.
