Algerian President honors national athletes for sporting excellence

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune presided over a grand ceremony at the Palais du Peuple in Algiers to honor Algerian athletes who have excelled on continental and international stages. The event served as a solemn recognition of the nation's sporting achievements, with the president personally acknowledging the exceptional journeys of athletes who have proudly represented Algeria.

The accolades spanned a wide range of disciplines. National teams in wheelchair basketball, gymnastics, badminton, judo, boxing, athletics, wrestling, windsurfing, and table tennis received awards for their commendable results in recent global and African competitions. Special recognition was also given to USM Alger, the recent winners of the CAF Confederation Cup.

This tribute represents a recognition of the supreme attention, continuous support, and constant encouragement given to national sports.

Individual stars were also celebrated, with world gymnastics champion Kaylia Nemour receiving a prolonged ovation. High jumper Younes Ayachi, runner Zakaria Touahria, and kung fu wushu athlete Marouane Abdelmohsen Adzimi were among those congratulated by the presidency. Karateka Celya Wikene and Louisa Abouriche, judoka Driss Messaoud Redouane, and boxer Fatiha Mansouri also received honors.

Minister of Sports Walid Sadi expressed the sports community's gratitude to Tebboune, highlighting the president's continuous support and encouragement. Sadi described the ceremony as a significant milestone for the athletes and a powerful motivator for future endeavors. He also outlined the ministry's commitment, under Tebboune's directives, to fostering a culture of excellence through programs aimed at supporting talent and creating conditions for Algeria's elite athletes to shine globally.
