Alicia Silverstone Returns as Cher in New 'Clueless' Series for Paramount+

Alicia Silverstone is set to return as the beloved Cher Horowitz in a new "Clueless" television series, a six-episode sequel greenlit by Paramount+. The project, originally developed for Peacock, will now be a flagship original for Paramount+, bringing the iconic 90s character into the modern era.

The series will function as a direct continuation of the 1995 film, picking up with Cher as a successful businesswoman and mother. Her world is turned upside down when her teenage daughter enters high school, forcing Cher to navigate the challenges of raising an adolescent in a vastly different time than her own, leaving her feeling "clueless" once again.

The new installment will show Cher as a successful businesswoman who has also built a family life. However, everything changes when her daughter reaches adolescence and enters high school, forcing her to face a reality for which she does not feel prepared.

Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss are penning the scripts, with Schwartz and Savage, known for "Gossip Girl" and "The O.C.," also serving as executive producers. Silverstone will executive produce alongside Amy Heckerling, the writer-director of the original film, and Robert Lawrence.

Paramount sees the "Clueless" sequel as part of its strategy to bolster its offerings for female viewers. Filming is scheduled to commence in Los Angeles in 2027, the same city where the original movie was shot. The production is also seeking California film tax incentives.
