Almaty authorities deny rumors about power restoration time

Almaty authorities have refuted online claims specifying an exact time for the full restoration of electricity following a widespread power outage. While some messages circulating in chats suggested power would not return until 10:30 p.m., the Alatau Zharyk Company officially denied this information.

KEGOC, the system operator, confirmed that restoration efforts are actively in progress. The company stated that by 2:47 p.m., restrictions totaling 295 MW had already been lifted in the Karaganda, Abai, and Ulytau regions, indicating a partial recovery.

Following the large-scale power outage in Almaty and Almaty Region, specialists are working to restore the power system. According to preliminary information, electricity supplies are expected to be fully restored today, August 14, at around 10:30 p.m.

The power disruptions commenced around 3:00 p.m. on August 14, impacting numerous districts in Almaty and the surrounding Almaty Region. An accident involving 500 kV overhead power transmission lines owned by KEGOC was identified as the cause, leading to a disconnection of 300 MW of load. The outage affected several districts in Almaty Region and specific areas within Almaty city. In the capital, the power loss caused traffic lights to fail, disrupting communications and leading to significant traffic jams, necessitating the deployment of traffic police to manage intersections.
