Almazbek Atambayev's daughter posts photo with him in Spain

Aliyya Shagieva, the daughter of former Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Atambayev, has shared a personal moment with her father, posting a photograph of them together on social media. The image captures Atambayev during a walk with his daughter, who accompanied the post with a heartfelt caption: "For some, a beloved president, for others, a loud name. For me – my beloved, sensitive dad."

Almazbek Atambayev, who served as Kyrgyzstan's president from 2011 to 2017, has been involved in several criminal cases since the events in Koy-Tash in August 2019. He has faced accusations in cases related to the release of a criminal figure, the Koy-Tash events, modernization of the Bishkek thermal power plant, and other matters.

In February 2023, following a Supreme Court decision, Atambayev was released and traveled to Spain for medical treatment, where he remains. Despite his absence from Kyrgyzstan, he was sentenced in absentia in June 2025 by the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek to 11 years and 3 months imprisonment on charges including the Koy-Tash events. He continues to make political statements and appeals through social media and supporters.
