Altay Fans Urge Club Legend Mustafa Denizli to Rescue Team from Financial Crisis

Fans of the Turkish football club Altay are appealing to club icon Mustafa Denizli to step in and help steer the team out of its severe financial difficulties. The call comes as the club approaches an extraordinary general assembly on Thursday.

Social media posts from supporters urged Denizli, referred to as "Great Altay's Great Mustafa," to "put his body into the task." The club is in dire straits, with its transfer ban, mounting debt reaching 1 billion Turkish Lira, and several players reportedly considering leaving. These issues have caused significant concern among club members.

The situation has been exacerbated by the failure to reach an agreement with potential investor Ahmet Nur Çebi, leading club president Sinan Kanlı to hint at his resignation. With no other presidential candidates emerging, fans have taken it upon themselves to rally support for Denizli, a celebrated figure in Altay's history. Denizli previously coached the team, guiding them to promotion to the Süper Lig in 2021 after a 38-year absence. The Alsancak Stadium, where Altay played its home games during the 2021-22 season, was even renamed Alsancak Mustafa Denizli Stadium in his honor.

Supporters are also reaching out to Mahmut Özgener, president of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce and another prominent figure associated with the club, imploring him to provide assistance.
