Álvarez hits two homers as Mets beat Giants 10-6

Francisco Álvarez hit two of New York’s five home runs Friday as the Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants 10-6.

Mark Vientos, Bo Bichette and Puerto Rican shortstop Francisco Lindor also homered for New York. The Mets scored 10 runs for the second consecutive game and matched their season high for home runs, a mark they had also reached against Detroit on May 14 and at the Chicago White Sox on Aug. 22.

Rafael Devers provided the Giants’ biggest contribution in the opening game of the series. The Dominican slugger hit a home run, added two doubles and drove in five runs.

The performance marked Álvarez’s third two-homer game of the season and the eighth of his career. The 24-year-old catcher also hit two home runs while supporting McLean in a 10-3 Mets win at San Francisco on April 3.

Vientos hit a three-run homer off rookie Matt Wilkinson in the first inning. It was his second home run in four games since returning from nearly two months on the injured list with a broken right hand. Lindor added two hits, his first multihit game since Aug. 25.

McLean improved to 11-8 after allowing two runs and six hits. He struck out seven, walked four and threw a career-high 105 pitches over six innings.
