Alzheimer’s trial will test a drug on people without symptoms to see whether dementia can be prevented

Healthy middle-aged people who have no memory loss could soon receive an experimental Alzheimer’s drug in a trial designed to prevent dementia before symptoms appear.

Participants will be selected because they are considered at higher risk of developing the condition. The study is being run by an NHS trust as part of an international clinical trial.

Rather than treating people after memory loss begins, researchers will test whether the drug can stop Alzheimer’s from developing in the first place.
